Advances in Cataract Surgery

Advanced Cataract Surgery

Please note, we currently specialize in LASIK and PRK surgery only. We no longer provide these services but will leave this information on the website for educational purposes.

Cataract surgery has gone through incredible advancements since the time of our parents and grandparents. Today, we are proud to offer no stitch and no needle cataract surgery at the San Diego Cataract Center. Although no operation is 100% guaranteed, the advancements of cataract surgery have made the results or treating your cataracts never better.

Advantages of No Stitch Cataract Surgery at the San Diego Cataract Center:

  • No Stitch
  • No Eye Patch
  • No local injection (needle) near the eye
  • Faster Recovery
  • Outpatient Surgery
  • Less Pain

Phacoemulsification - Small Incision San Diego Cataract Surgery

Phacoemulsification was developed by the late Charles Kelman M.D. to improve the visual results and healing with cataract surgery. This advanced cataract surgery technique uses high frequency ultrasound energy to remove the cataract through a microsurgical instrument.

  • Step 1: Your San Diego Cataract Surgeon uses a small instrument that breaks the cataract into small pieces. These microscopic pieces are evaporated and removed.
  • Step 2: An intraocular lens is placed into the eye.
  • Step 3: The lens is centered. Since small incisions are used to remove the cataract and insert the lens, a suture is not needed.

Cataract Surgery Recovery Steps:

  • A clear shield but no patch is placed onto the eye.
  • Antiobiotic drops are prescribed at the San Diego Eye and Cataract Center to prevent infection.
  • Steriod drops are prescirbed to decrease inflammation and promote healing.
  • The San Diego Eye and Cataract Center recommends that you keep your eye clean.
  • The San Diego Cataract Center recommends no heavy lifting, bending, or straining the first two weeks after your cataract surgery.
  • You will see your cataract surgeon the day after your cataract surgery.
